MARIE TABLER

AMERICAN GLASS ARTIST

Artist Bio

Growing up in the Midwest, I’d sometimes watch my dad work on various projects in his workshop and was very impressed with his stained glass pieces. Many years after obtaining my BFA from the University of Central Missouri, Dad and I worked together on a glass design. Once it was complete and installed, I realized I loved this medium and have been cutting and breaking glass ever since.

Glass is well-suited to carry out ideas that are both thought-provoking and gorgeous. It is thrilling to assemble hundreds of beautiful pieces of glass into something more significant as a whole than they are separate.

Statement

My free-form glass wall sculptures utilize organic and geometric shapes and vivid colors to represent individuals working together to create something more remarkable than they are alone, much like cells combine to form greater life and movement. These elements placed side by side modify the shape of those nearest them as the ideas or movements they form are also guided and shaped by the collective. Flowing aquatic themes symbolizing life and action are also vital components of my work.
